Lalman Tamang Rebuilds His House and His Life - Multimedia

Lalman Tamang lost his wife and his house when the earthquake hit. He owes his life to the beams that sheltered him from the crumbling stones and now lives in a makeshift shelter made up of salvaged timber and rubble materials. As part of the government’s reconstruction program, Lalaman is an eligible beneficiary and has received the first tranche of a grant of NRP 200,000 (Nepalese Rupees) to rebuild his house and his life. Lalman Tamang is one of many in rural Nepal who lost his home in the 2015 earthquake. He is from the Dolakha District, one of the 14 districts most affected by the earthquake events where casualties as well as damage and destruction of housing, schools, community structures, historic and religious monuments, etc., were widespread.
