Nepal Earthquake Housing Reconstruction Program MDTF Overview - Multimedia

In April and May of 2015, two huge earthquakes struck Nepal. In addition to the devastating human cost, hundreds of thousands of houses were destroyed or rendered uninhabitable. Directed by the National Reconstruction Authority, the Earthquake Housing Reconstruction Program will encompass all of the housing stock to be rebuilt throughout Nepal. In order to help the Government of Nepal with its housing reconstruction program, the United States Agency for International Development, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Government of Canada established a multi-donor trust fund, administered by the World Bank, which is aimed at helping the most vulnerable Nepalis in rural areas -- hardest hit by the earthquake -- to rebuild their homes through a government subsidy and earthquake safer techniques.
